The Beast from Affalterbach – Mercedes-Benz C126 AMG Widebody

There was a time when AMG wasn’t just a name on a badge, it was a philosophy, a workshop full of rebels turning luxury coupes into Autobahn Monsters. Before the merger with Mercedes-Benz, AMG was a tuner that worked quietly, almost underground, hand-building machines for a very specific type of enthusiasts. Among their most radical creations was the C126 AMG Widebody, a car that turned the already imposing 560 SEC into a true monster.

Based on the stately 560 SEC coupe, AMG turned this luxury grand tourer into something far more aggressive, a menacing Autobahn hammer with flared metal fenders, deep chin spoilers, muscular rear arches, and a presence that could silence traffic. Each car was different. Some had bored-out M117 engines with monstrous output. Others had full cosmetic makeovers but retained their original drivetrains. What united them all was rarity. Only a handful were built, and today, original AMG Widebodies are virtually unobtainable, often trading hands for over half a million dollars.

Beneath its aggressive exterior, the C126 AMG Widebody was a true engineering masterpiece. AMG often took the factory 5.5 L M117 V8 and bored it out to 6.0 L before fitting bespoke aluminum dual-overhead-cam, four-valve heads, producing around 380–385 PS (≈375–385 hp) and a thundering 566 Nm of torque. These conversions weren’t just about displacement, they featured custom camshafts, polished ports, and freer-flowing exhausts to extract maximum performance. To keep it all in check, AMG paired these engines with re-geared automatic transmissions or rare five-speed manuals, along with Torsen limited-slip differentials, upgraded suspension components, and larger brakes. The result? A luxury grand tourer capable of 0–100 km/h in around 6 seconds, with a top speed close to 288 km/h. Every AMG Widebody was different, tailored to the buyer’s desires, and that’s what made them so special: no two were ever truly the same.

But what if you could build your own?

At Haidavia Classics, we’re making it possible to bring that same AMG spirit back to life. After years of research and reverse engineering. We now offer a high-quality reproduction of the complete C126 AMG Widebody body kit, capturing the exact stance and proportions that made the original cars so iconic. This isn't just a visual tribute, it’s a deep, detailed recreation.

And for the purists? We went a step further and reproduced the wide quarter panels and flared fenders in metal, just like AMG did back in the day. Most replicas settle for fiberglass; we didn’t. That attention to authenticity sets our kits apart.

But bodywork is only part of the story. To build a convincing tribute, the interior and finishing touches matter just as much. That’s why we’ve sourced original Recaro CSE electric seats, the same model AMG fitted in period, known for their comfort, adjustability, and aggressive bolstering. We also have genuine AMG steering wheel that gives that classic motorsport feel, and even AMG speedometers, with the correct redline, font, and style used in original conversions.

From the body to the smallest trim details, we’ve assembled almost everything you need to turn a clean 500 or 560 SEC into a true AMG Widebody tribute. It won’t just look right, it’ll feel right.

The originals might be locked away in private collections, but the dream is very much alive. You can build your own legend.
